WalletHub ranked states by comparing how they performed in three areas -- affordability, quality of life and healthcare. The top five states are: 1. Florida, 2. Colorado, 3. South Dakota, 4. Iowa, 5. Virginia. Florida ranked as the number one most affordable state for retirement, but also did well in the areas of quality of life and healthcare. The worst states to retire in this year are 46. Arkansas, 47. Mississippi, 48. Rhode Island, 49. New Jersey and finally, 50. Kentucky.
