This is How Much a Retired Couple Would Need to Cover Health Care Costs

A couple retiring this year will need $280,000 to cover health care costs, according to Fidelity Investments’ most recent estimate. That number is a two percent increase from 2017 and a 75 percent increase from 2002.

Fidelity says it's the smallest annual increase since 2014. According to Fidelity, the phenomenon could be caused by a number of factors, including prescription out-of-pocket drug expenses and Medicare premiums remaining flat over the last year and Americans saving more money in their 401(k) accounts.
